Improve first/last name splits

When we import into our CRM, we are getting records with last names like “R Jones” and “J. Smith” because middle initials are mapping into the last name field. And donor lists don’t alphabetize correctly unless we correct manually. Surely we’re not the only organization for whom this is a huge challenge?

Agreed. The Salesforce integration requires you to add the Middle Name/Initial field to the page layout in Salesforce, but the Give Lively integration doesn't actually use the field. Given that many people write things like "Jane and John Doe" in the name field, and given that some people's first or last names are actually two words and not one, there will always be data problems to fix, but if the system could at least try to account for middle names/initials, it seems like that would solve more problems than it would create. For example, if the first word went to a first name field, the last word went to a last name field, and everything in the middle went to a middle name field, that would be correct more often than not.
